The Way Way Back

This weekend, I saw one of the best movies I have ever seen. The Way Way Back is a poignant story of an adult who was willing to stand in the gap for a teenager who needed someone….and I want to be that guy for the rest of my life.

There is no greater calling than student ministry – and I have desperately missed it. Some days, (most days) I feel like this waiting period is a constrictor – squeezing the breath from my lungs one little exhale at a time. On days when your passion – your life blood – seems just beyond your reach and nothing would soothe you like a deep breath… remember this passage from Isaiah 40:

Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.
They will soar on wings like eagles; they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and not be faint.

And if your passion, like mine, is being an influence in the lives of teenagers and their families, go see this movie! It’s definitely in my Top 5 of all time!

I've been in student ministry nearly 30 years…which generally just confirms how much I still don't know. Some days I'm the pizza-eating, over-responding, teaching-on-the-fly, desperate-for-volunteers, frustrated-with-co-workers youth leader that we all are. And sometimes…I knock it out of the park. I'm everywhere on social media that you are!
